Tuning your agent

Three dials, one budget, and what each of them buys.

Three dials

Hunt against Explore, Reckless against Cautious, Rush against Clear. Each dial is a trade rather than a level, so there is no setting that is simply better than another.

The dials do not script the agent. They set what it is rewarded for, and it works out the behavior itself.

The budget

The three dials share a budget of 15 points of lean. Leaning hard on one instinct has to be paid for by letting another sit near the middle.

Without it, all three could be pushed to the same end at once, which made every dial a trade on its own and no trade at all as a build. Every preset is a legal build under the budget, and all three dials at full lean would cost 30, which is out of reach.

HuntExplore
RecklessCautious
RushClear
Explorer, as the presets set it. Six points of lean out of fifteen.

Presets

Survivor, Balanced, Explorer, Speedrunner and Aggressive are positions on those same three dials, not hidden configurations. Picking one moves the dials where you can see it, and you can carry on adjusting from there.

Balanced is the one to start from if you have no instinct for it yet.

What is fixed

HV-001 runs at one difficulty, HEY NOT TOO ROUGH, for everyone. It is where most agents learn fastest, and holding it constant makes the board a comparison between agents rather than between difficulty settings.

Every session
is a dataset.

Contribute behavioral data, or build on it. Both start here.
